What video content costs in Sydney

Real market ranges for production, editing, social content and property media — and an honest explanation of what actually moves the number. Updated August 2026.

Almost nobody in this industry publishes prices, which makes it very hard to work out whether a quote is reasonable. So here is the whole picture, including where we sit in it.

Two things worth understanding before you look at any of these numbers. First, video pricing has enormous spread — the same brief can be quoted at $2,000 and $20,000 without either being dishonest, because what is included differs completely. Second, the cheapest quote is often the most expensive outcome, because the thing that costs you money is content that never gets made rather than content that costs slightly more per piece.

ServiceSydney rangeWhat it covers

Videographer day rate$600 – $1,800 / dayHalf or full day with kit. Raw footage or edited. Production companies with crews start higher.
Short-form video editing$80 – $250 / clipEditing only, footage supplied by you. Monthly arrangements bring the per-clip figure down.

The real variables

What actually moves a quote

01

Shoot days

The single biggest line. One day on location costs the same whether you get five clips out of it or twenty-five, which is why batching is nearly always cheaper per piece.

02

Who does the thinking

Turning up and filming what you point at is cheaper than working out what should be said. If you already have the angles, say so — it should come off the quote.

03

Revisions

Unlimited revisions sound generous and get priced in whether you use them or not. A capped number is usually cheaper and finishes faster.

04

Who owns it after

Some quotes cover a licence to use the footage for a period, not ownership. Always ask whether raw files are included and whether use is time-limited.

Getting an accurate quote

How to brief so the number means something

Say what it is for

A clip for paid ads and a clip for your website are different jobs. Naming the placement changes the format, the length and the price.

Give a volume, not a wish list

"Twelve pieces a month, ongoing" is quotable. "Some social content" is not, and you will get a padded number to cover the uncertainty.

Name your budget

Withholding it does not get you a better price, it gets you a proposal aimed at the wrong tier. A range is enough.

Ask what is excluded

Raw files, licensed music, extra revisions, travel and rush turnaround are the usual gaps between a quote and a final invoice.

Questions

Common questions about cost

How much does video production cost in Sydney?

It depends entirely on format. A day-rate videographer runs $600 to $1,800. A produced brand film starts around $3,000 and climbs well past $15,000 for scripted commercial work. Ongoing social content is usually a monthly figure between $1,800 and $5,000. The single biggest variable is whether you are buying one finished film or an ongoing flow of content.

Why do quotes vary so much for the same brief?

Usually because the briefs are not actually the same. Crew size, shoot days, scripting, talent, licensed music, motion graphics and revision rounds all move the number, and they are often left vague. When comparing quotes, compare deliverables and revision limits rather than headline prices.

Is it cheaper to hire a freelancer than an agency?

Per video, almost always. The difference is what sits around it — scripting, direction, scheduling, and someone accountable for the content actually going out. If you know exactly what you want made and can manage the process, a freelancer is good value. If the bottleneck is that nothing gets filmed, that is not a problem a lower per-clip rate solves.

What should I budget for social content?

For most Sydney small businesses, between $1,800 and $5,000 a month covers filming and editing at a volume that actually sustains a feed. Below that, you are usually buying editing only and filming it yourself, which can work well if you are comfortable on camera.

Does the price include the raw footage?

It should, and you should ask. Some producers charge extra to release raw files or licence footage for a limited period. Ours are included, with no time limit.

How much ad spend do I need on top?

Ad spend is separate from management fees and paid directly to the platform. Most Sydney service businesses need at least $1,500 to $2,500 a month in search spend before the data arrives fast enough to optimise against.
